In our new series, we introduce members of our Board of Directors and share their stories and how their passion to help has empowered our community.
Meet Jim Drinkwater:
“I am a retired financial executive with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors at both the executive and board levels. At McDougall House, I am the Board Vice Chair and Chair of the Governance & Ethics Committee.
I have been a Board member for two years, joining when approached by the past Chair of the Board to lend my experience to McDougall House. While I do not have a personal connection to the Mission, such as a family member with an addiction, it did not take me long to accept the invitation to contribute when I realized the positive impact McDougall House has on so many individuals.
Our children and grandchildren at this point have managed their lives in ways that have led to personal fulfillment and success. But I have seen along the way how easy it might have been for them to take a different path and had that happened I would have been grateful for an organization like McDougall House to have been there to help them find their way. I wish success and fulfillment in life for all, and being on the McDougall House Board is a small way that I can contribute.
I have seen the Board grow in many ways since I joined. The Board consists of individuals with a great variety of skills, experience and backgrounds, all of whom cooperate on the accomplishment of the strategic plan. The governance structure put in place by the Board is enabling the Board to work effectively and efficiently in achieving our goals. We would welcome additional members keen to help ensure the McDougall House Mission is achieved:
To provide a safe treatment environment that empowers women in recovery from addictions through knowledge, awareness, and behavioural change in order that they may choose to live healthy, happy and productive lives.
