The Organization

McDougall House Association (MHA) is a not-for-profit society and registered charity, established in 1969, providing residential bed-based addiction treatment for women. Women who come to McDougall House have already completed a first stage addictions program and are seeking further support in their recovery. MHA takes a comprehensive approach to addiction treatment, offering trauma informed programming that includes individual counselling, group counselling, and workshops. MHA is licensed with the Alberta Government as an inpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment center and is accredited with Accreditation Canada.

Our annual budget to operate our facility is primarily funded by Recovery Alberta (formerly Alberta Health Services) but we rely in part on fundraising and grants available to meet our full operational and capital funding needs.

Board of Directors

MHA is currently seeking three new Board Members. MHA is guided by a volunteer Governance Board and Committees (People and Safety, Governance and Ethics, Finance, and Fund Development) dedicated to overseeing and supporting the vision, mission and goals set forth.

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following general attributes:

• Commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of MHA which may be found on our website,
• Commitment and passion to meeting the needs of the clients we serve,
• Collaborative approach and strategic thinking, and
• Willingness to invest the time in attending board and committee meetings and events.

While we are particularly interested in candidates with a background in human resources, fundraising, addiction (with a focus on addiction treatment programming), legal, and property management, we would welcome any candidates who feel that they have experience to offer, a connection to our cause and who have the time and commitment to contribute to MHA. In terms of expectation of time, the Board currently meets seven months of the year for up to two hours per meeting plus preparation. In addition, it is expected that Board members will also serve on two Committees which meet for approximately one hour per month for 6-10 meetings per year.
